Breathing Life Into End-of-Life Care

How the Impact Lab helped this business owner expand her offerings and reach a new audience

Breathing Life into End-of-Life Care

A veteran, death doula, and educator, Dr. Qwynn Salazar is on a mission to ignite change in how we provide end-of-life care for those who served in the military.

That’s why she started her organization, In Their Honor (ITH), in 2021 — to raise awareness and address veterans’ challenges as they approach the end of their lives.

The Problem

When Qwynn started working with us, she had several goals to improve her business. She needed help writing a project proposal for a new training service to offer hospice and palliative care organizations nationwide. Her primary product was speaking engagements to raise awareness, but she also wanted to expand her offerings in a more focused way. Finally, she needed assistance in improving her sales strategy to increase revenue.

Where mission edge came in

We paired Qwynn with a financial expert who helped her refine her organization’s mission and find new areas for expansion.

Together, they worked to craft a compelling proposal for her prospective hospice client, complete with a list of questions to make sure her offerings were addressing their needs.

Our finance experts helped Qwynn identify her core product and, from there, hone in on her potential customer base and create a well-defined sales outreach strategy.

The solution

After working with Mission Edge, Qwynn came away with a financial model for the next few years of her business, as well as the tools she needed to keep developing her core product and reaching out to new customers.

She also successfully tested a new, shorter training session, secured a major contract, and is on her way to launch a new core product for her organization.

Now, she’s got plans for future expansion and a new strategic plan for growing her business.
