Michelle Franklin has always loved candles. But as she grew more environmentally conscious, she came to realize that there weren’t a lot of eco-friendly options that didn’t break the bank.

That’s why she created Dripping Candles and Design, a designer candle business that offers affordable candles in cozy, unique scents, all backed by an environmentally-responsible business model. 

When she started working with Mission Edge, Michelle had already been in business for over two years. She wanted to increase her revenue, but her accounting and bookkeeping methods were outdated, and she knew she needed a revamp in order to meet her goals.

The Problem

Michelle wanted to double her yearly revenue from $50,000 to $100,000. But when she started working with us, she was using Excel spreadsheets and a physical notebook to do her accounting.

There’s nothing wrong with pen and paper, but these methods made it difficult for Michelle to get an accurate understanding of her finances. She knew she needed to connect her business banking account to an accounting software to get better financial data, but she wasn’t sure where to start.

Where mission edge came in

When Michelle started meeting with one of our financial experts, the first thing on the docket was connecting her bank account to a basic accounting software.

She had transactions coming in from a variety of sources, so we helped gather all the data from Square, Venmo and Notebook into one place to get a more accurate picture of everything together. 

We discovered that Michelle’s online sales were not very profitable. We helped her get a better understanding of her ideal buyer persona.

Now, she’s targeting in-person customers instead, and she’s earning more revenue as she focuses on the most profitable transactions for her business.

The solution

Now, Michelle has a much more accurate understanding of where she’s at, and a meaningful way to track her progress.

After completing a customer persona exercise with our finance expert, Michelle also has a  better understanding of her target audience, which has helped her refocus her efforts on key buyers.
